Welcome to Building & Renewal

Unlocking Assets for Mission

Faced with a building they could no longer use, the Fellowship in Chipping Norton abandoned it to meet in an old people’s home. This was a great shame and the grade II listed building fell into some disrepair.

Working with the new minister and her team, we were able to look at the building from a different point of view and look at how it might be released back to them to continue the mission in the town. A suite of 8 apartments were built in and around the church and these were sold to help the church cover the cost of recovering their building.

The church is now working in their newly created space and is able to benefit from a modern, flexible space without having the worry of looking after an ageing building.

A little faith, A big vision, Lots of hard work

We are available to Fellowships who are exploring their capacity for making changes to the infrastructure within which they work. We are aware that many (most?) church buildings were built for a different generation in different times and are often no longer fit for purpose in the 21st century.

New Projects

Colwell Bay/Wellow, Isle of Wight

Colwell Baptist Church

Our aim here is to create a new church on the site of an old Baptist church in the seaside resort of Colwell, a lovely little town on the western edge of the Isle of Wight.

Wellow Baptist Church (disused)

To help this Fellowship achieve its objectives, we intent to build 3 beautiful new houses next to the church in Colwell and to convert a disused chapel in the village of Wellow for housing. There are many difficulties in delivering such a project however we are working with all the interested parties to find solutions that will continue the witness on the Island for many years to come.

Durham Road, Gateshead

Durham Road Baptist Church, Gateshead

This early victorian sanctuary is no longer viable as a church building and so we are converting it into 9 glorious 2 & 3 bedroom apartments. The original church to the rear of the building is to be restored as a living, functioning church for the community.

Our architects have designed some stage-of-the-art apartments that incorporate many of the original building’s features.

Parkstone, Poole

Parkstone Church, Poole, Dorset

Parkstone, Poole, Dorset

This delightful Edwardian building is situated between Poole and Bournemouth, some 2 miles from Poole Bay. We are working with the congregation to develop a modern church facility on the ground floor and a suite of stunning apartments to be built in and around the church space. This project is in its early planning stages and subject to permission, it is likely the apartments will be available in 2020.

King’s Stanley, Stroud

King’s Stanley Baptist Church & Schoolrooms

Hidden away in the south western Cotswold hills is a very charming hamlet on the edge of King’s Stanley. Situated on on the Cotswold Way, the church is surplus to requirements and we are about to start its conversion into some spectacular homes. Plans are currently being prepared for approval.

About B&R

Chipping Norton – Before the work

Fellowships up and down the country are struggling with buildings built for the needs of a previous generation. They are old, inefficient and expensive to maintain. But what do you do about them?

If a Fellowship is fortunate they may have an expert in their congregation who can take on the challenge however most are struggling merely to keep the fabric of the building together rather than to unlock it for themselves and the next generations

Building & Renewal was set up to help a congregation in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire to recover a building that was so dilapidated they had had to abandon it.

Chipping Norton – After the work

We are based in Oxfordshire however we work with congregations wherever there is a need and the physical buildings are suitable for our creative teams to work with.
